STATE CHAMPIONS  CLASS AA: Shawnee Mission  CLASS A: Russell  CLASS B: Sedgwick  CLASS BB: Burns

                   Ken Bueltel's first season as Hayden coach got off to a rocky start. Hayden lost the first 9 games on the schedule including the first meeting with Topeka High since 1937. Coach Bueltel used what the Topeka Daily Capital described as the "St. Louis stall" to attempt to steal a victory over the Trojans. Bob Turgeon used the dribble stall game to good effect but Topeka High came out on top. This game set the tone with opponents that Hayden might always be a serious threat regardless of talent.

                   Coach Bueltel called his first win over Seaman a "sweet victory". When he played for Hayden in the 1940's, Seaman inflicted some sound beatings that he no doubt remembered. Football meetings in those days were equally unpleasant. Hayden made a habit of beating Seaman under Coach Bueltel  - (42-6) including one 19 game winning streak.
